This Privacy Policy explains how LaneAid (“LaneAid,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the LaneAid mobile application (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

2. How We Use Information

  • To operate the core matching function of the Service, connecting a Driver’s request with nearby, eligible Providers.

  • To verify Provider identity and certification before granting access to leads.

  • To charge the platform fee to Providers and keep records of those platform-fee transactions for accounting, tax, and dispute-resolution purposes.

  • To communicate with you about your account, a specific request, or changes to the Service.

  • To investigate and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service.

  • To comply with legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from public authorities.

How payments work. LaneAid is a platform that connects Drivers with independent Providers. Drivers pay the Provider directly for the roadside service (for example, by cash or e-transfer). LaneAid does not collect, hold, process or transfer any payment for the services, and does not receive any part of the price a Provider charges a Driver. The only amount LaneAid collects is a flat platform fee (a lead fee) charged to the Provider, which is charged automatically to the Provider’s card on file through Stripe when a Driver accepts the Provider’s quote. For Company accounts, the fee is charged to the Company’s card.

3. How We Share Information

We share information only as follows:

  • With a matched Provider or Driver: a Driver’s phone number, name, request details, and location are shared with the Provider whose quote they accept (and vice versa) so the job can be completed. This is the core function of the Service and cannot be disabled while using it.

  • With service providers who process data on our behalf: Stripe (saving a Provider’s card and charging the platform fee); Supabase (database, file storage and sign-in); Mapbox (turning addresses into map coordinates and calculating driving routes, which involves sending pickup and drop-off locations to Mapbox); and push-notification services (Expo, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service), which deliver alerts to your device. Each is bound by its own data protection obligations to us.

  • When required by law, such as in response to a subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of LaneAid, our Users, or the public.

  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of some or all of LaneAid’s assets, subject to the acquiring party’s commitment to honor this Policy for previously collected information.

Voice input: if you tap the microphone button to describe a problem by speaking, your phone’s speech-recognition service turns your speech into text. On Android this normally sends the audio to Google for processing, and on iPhone it is normally processed on the device. LaneAid receives and stores only the resulting text, not the audio recording.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. Providers can delete their account at any time from inside the app (Service Provider > Profile > Delete my account). When an account is deleted, we remove the personal information tied to it: name, phone number, business name, certification numbers, uploaded documents and photos (including license, business and certification images), saved payment method, push-notification tokens and support messages, and the login is permanently disabled so it can no longer be used. We keep records of completed jobs, platform-fee transactions and job evidence photos, no longer linked to your name or contact details, for as long as needed to meet legal, tax, accounting and dispute-resolution obligations. If you delete a Company account, the accounts of all drivers attached to that Company are deleted in the same way, because their access depends on the Company’s certification and billing. You may register again later with the same email address, but this creates a new account; previous history is not restored.

Drivers do not create an account and are never asked for payment information. A Driver’s request details (the name, phone number, location, description and photos a Driver submits) are kept only to match the Driver with a Provider and to handle disputes. They are deleted or de-identified 24 months after the request, or earlier if the Driver asks (see Section 6). We respond to deletion requests within 30 days.

5. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, row-level access controls on our database, and restricting access to certification documents and payment data to what is operationally necessary. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and correction: You may review and update your account information within the app, or by contacting us.

  • Deletion: Providers and Companies can delete their account in the app (Service Provider > Profile > Delete my account). Drivers use the Service without creating an account; a Driver can ask for the personal information in their requests to be removed by emailing support@laneaid.ca with the phone number used and the approximate date of the request. Full instructions are at laneaid.ca/delete-account. In all cases deletion is subject to records LaneAid must retain for legal or accounting purposes, as described in Section 4. A deletion cannot be completed while a job is in progress.

  • Location permissions: You may decline or revoke location permission through your device settings, though this will prevent core features of the Service (matching to nearby Providers) from functioning.

  • Marketing communications: If we send promotional communications, you may opt out at any time using the method provided in that communication.

7. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete it.

8. International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process or store information on servers located outside of Canada. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to require that such providers protect your information consistently with this Policy and applicable law.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the Service or by other reasonable means before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
